BISON BASKETBALL: Coaches: Damon Berggren & Cliff Adelman

The very young Bison Basketball team had a win/loss record of 12 – 20 and steady improvement was very evident.  Our first game of the season was a 85 – 45 loss to Davidson. Just before the Conference playoffs Davidson defeated the Bisons 78 – 72 and later at the Conference Championship the Bisons were eliminated from the playoffs with a 1 point loss to Herbert.  The future is VERY bright with 5 Grade 10’s and 3 Grade 11’s returning as well as new talent coming. If each returning player can take the next step forward, a Hoopla berth is quite possible!

The B Bisons had a fun year with many exhibition games with OHS and tournaments at Aberdeen and Hanley.  Many A team players joined the B team for their games/tournaments.

Lady Bisons Basket shot at Conference playoffs (8)

The Lady Bison Basketball team had a fairly successful 2016/2017 season. Despite battling many injuries throughout the year, the team finished with a .500 record with 16 wins and 16 losses. When the whole team was healthy, they were a force to be reckoned with.

A highlight of the year was winning the Moose Jaw Cornerstone tournament. The girls were clearly hungry to get back in action after the Christmas break. They beat both Herbert (53-20) and Fillmore (50-32) handily and then went on to win a close game against Caronport in the final (57-54).

The Lady Bisons started their playoff run against Strasbourg, winning 74-33 in the LCBI gym. However, despite a strong effort in the Conference final, LCBI was outmatched by a very strong Kenaston team and lost 79-49 (Kenaston went on to win the Provincial Championships).

In Regionals, LCBI came up against Purdue in the opening game. The Lady Bisons got off to a bit of a slow start, and couldn’t seem to truly get rolling until the fourth quarter. Despite a great comeback, it was a little too late as Perdue won the game 54-51, ending LCBI’s chances of advancing to Hoopla. Although the girls were disappointed, they displayed great sportsmanship and congratulated the other team at the end of the game. In the final game of the season, the Lady Bisons enjoyed a bit more of a relaxed game as they played against Hillmond; LCBI went on to win that game 80-23.

Thank you to everyone who came out to watch and support the Lady Bisons this year!
