English Language Arts (ELA) A10
The course outcomes incorporate the use of a variety of literature as well as non-print resources as students comprehend and respond, compose and create and assess and reflect. Unit topics and themes include The Challenges of Life and The Mysteries of Life.
ELA B10
The course outcomes incorporate the use of a variety of literature as well as non-print resources as students comprehend and respond, compose and create and assess and reflect. Specific units include Equity and Ethics and The World Around Us and Within Us. William Shakespeare’s Macbeth is also studied intensively.
History 10
Through this course students will come to appreciate how Western Civilization has evolved from the Fall of Rome in the 5th Century to the development of full-blown feudalism by the 11th, as well as the Renaissance, Scientific Revolution, Enlightenment, and the French Revolution.
Science 10
This course is a survey of the three main areas of senior science. This includes ecosystems and sustainability ( biology), motion (physics), chemical reactions ( chemistry) and weather dynamics.
Wellness 10
This curriculum contributes to fostering optimal wellness while recognizing there are many factors that promote well-being at every stage in a young person’s development. Throughout Wellness 10, opportunities are provided for students to attain and maintain a healthy “mind, body, and spirit”. Young people can acquire the understandings, skills, and confidences needed, for example, to create a personal plan for wellness, balance the dimensions of wellness, establish a norm of safety, experience how body mass affects physical fitness, and develop a deep sense of the spiritual dimension of overall well-being.
Workplace and Apprenticeship Mathematics 10
This course is designed to provide students with the mathematical understandings and critical-thinking skills identified for entry into some post-secondary institutions, many of the trades, and the workplace. The course outcomes include equality, linear measurement, area of 2-D and surface area of 3-D images, Pythagorean Theorem, trigonometry, currency exchange, income, gross and net pay and many others.
Foundations of Mathematics and Pre-Calculus 10
This course is designed to provide students with the mathematical understandings and critical-thinking skills identified for entry into post-secondary programs. The course outcomes include such areas as factoring, irrational numbers, trigonometry, linear relations, relations and functions, linear equations and many others.
Christian Ethics 10
This class begins with a survey of the Bible and how to use it as a resource to search for information. CE 10 is primarily focused on the Old Testament. This course offers young people opportunities to discuss their personal value systems and faith as it relates to ethical decision-making.
Drama 10
This course is a production-style course designed to help students actively explore dramatic techniques. We work on basics like voice projection, breathing, and character interpretation. The students explore scripts, perform Readers” Theatre and prepare a one-act play for performance. All aspects of production are studied from lighting to set design. Students also research theatre history from the ancients to modern times.
Accounting 10
This course is an introductory course introducing students to the fundamental principles of accounting. These include balance sheets, income, statements, worksheets, financial journaling and general ledgers. Students will learn the complete accounting cycle for a service business. In addition, students will explore the basics of real world financial situations and terminology ranging from personal banking, credit cards, loans and investments.
Choral 10
Choral allows students to develop their vocal, ensemble and musical skills through the performance of choral music. The repertoire selected represents a diverse range of musical periods and styles. Elements of music theory, music appreciation, vocal techniques and performance skills will be learned through the students’ participation in this non-auditioned choir. Through choral students also get to learn the importance of teamwork and team spirit. Choir is a year-long course where students will be required to participate in and attend a number of concerts and festival performances.
Visual Art 10
The main aim of this course is to enable students to understand and value arts expressions throughout life. The three components of the course are the creative/productive, the cultural/historical and the critical/responsive. This is a hands-on class that develops a student’s skill set as it pertains to drawing, painting, sculpting and much more.
Music 10
Students are exposed to a variety of musical selections ad music history, as well as studying renowned composers and music theory.
Instrumental Jazz 10
The ultimate goal of instrumental jazz studies is to play jazz well. To accomplish this students will study improvisation, style/feel, forms, history, and theory. They will be given the opportunity to enhance the knowledge of their instrument and their ability to play on their instrument while engaging in ensemble and personal performance, and listening to performances by great jazz musicians.
