   LCBI  Cross Country

2022 Cross-Country Running SHSAA (Sask High Schools Athletics Assoc) Provincial Championships took place on Saturday, October 15th at Wapiti Valley Ski Resort.  It was an impressive course that ran on ski hill trails along the North Saskatchewan River.  The day started windy and cool, but athletes appreciated the temperatures.  All races began on a downward slope which had athletes sprinting into a tight turn.  Spectators were treated to the sound of stampeding runners trying to reach the front of the pack.  Groups circled up to the chalet past spectators, farther up the ski hill and then back down.  Each race ended with a downward slope into a long straightaway.  Races had exciting finishes with competitors sprinting and gaining positions mere meters before the finish line. Six LCBI athletes competed.

Intermediate Girls – Larkyn Lee had her best race of the year and enjoyed the challenging terrain.  She is motivated to continue her training and looks forward to competing in the years ahead.

Intermediate Boys – Kyler Spencer placed in the top quarter of his group.  Challenged by the terrain, this multi-sport athlete learned how competitive the world of cross-country can be.
Junior Girls – Alyssa Follick was our top finisher of the day.  She ran an incredibly exciting race, changing positions throughout her race and powering to the finish to get into the top 10, placing 9th.

Senior Girls – Alex Joyes ran her best race of the season against some highly impressive senior girls runners.  We hope that after graduating Alex will continue training and racing.  She has improved steadily over the season.

Senior Boys – Trason Ridgewell is the supporter of all.  He is a great leader and recruiter for our team.  Each of his races this season saw improvements and he always competed with a smile.

Senior Boys – Our most experienced runner, Kalen Follick, had his best race of the season, besting his West Central rival in the final cross country race of their high school careers.  However, his coaches are hoping to see a rematch in Track and Field this spring.

LCBI athletes each had solid performances and together were able to earn SILVER in Team Competition for the 2A High Schools. We look forward to hanging a new banner in the gym.

Special Thanks to LCBI Alumna, Rilla Johnson for all her knowledge and support.  We hope to attract more athletes for next year’s team and are excited about training for Track and Field distances next spring.
